Paul started his career at Leeds United in 1998 and played 119 times for them and then transfered to Spurs in May 2004 for £1.5m and signed a seven year contract extension in 2005.

One of his claims to fame is that he scored a goal for Leeds against Swindon Town in the 2003-04 season which put the game into extra time and then penalties which Paul saved two of.
