Darren Fletcher Concerned over Faroes
Darren Fletcher has admitted that he's more concerned with playing Euro 2008 minnows the Faroe Islands than the giants that are Italy. And he's got cause for concern as they've been held to draws by the team from the North Atlantic, once a 1-1 draw in qualifying for the Euroo 2000 tournament. And laterly in 2002, Berti Vogts team could only manage a 2-2 draw.Flether commented:
"I will definitely worry more about the Faroe Islands than any of the other teams. These games are the hardest because we are expected to go out and win 3-0 or 4-0. But every team struggles against the Faroes."
I have spoken to the Irish lads at United and they said they had tough games in the World Cup qualifiers. The Faroes' name sticks out because everyone remembers Berti's first game against them.
"It will be a no-win situation because we have to get three points and score goals. It will be no means as easy as everyone expects. It could end up being our hardest game of the entire qualifying campaign. Anything can be thrown up if you are not at 100% and your opponents are. "
"There can be an upset in any game and that is the beauty and unpredictability of the game. If they win more personal battles, they can win the game. It can happen at any time, as you saw when Exeter took United to a replay in the FA Cup and the Faroes drew with Scotland."
How Scotland performs against the fresh French squad will be a concern too. Despite the loss of Zinedine Zidane, Lillian Thuram and Claude Makelele, they'll still be a massive threat as the new recruits will still be a massive threat.
