Personalised Match Tickets Checks Rejected
The Organisers of Euro 2008 will not carry out pre-match security checks following on from the complications found with the World Cup.FIFA said prior to the World Cup that all fans would have the name on match tickets would be checked to see if they matched the ticket holder's passport or ID. But in actual fact only 2% of match-goers had their tickets checked.
"The concept used in Germany was very good in theory but it didn't really work in practice," Austria's Euro 2008 tournament director Christian Schmoelzer told Reuters. He continued however, "Euro 2008 tickets would still carry the name of the person who originally bought them, either visibly or in electronic form. This means we can still trace the original buyer in the event of a problem"
